I've got a list (ever-growing) of bits of music I really like. Maybe I'll put this in order sometime, but more likely I'll leave it as vague as it should be :-) Except to say that my favourite song ever is probably a tie between My Bloody Valentine's "Soon" and Curve's "Lillies Dying" — two absolutely amazing songs.
The same sort of thing goes for my favourite albums — this is very ill-defined sort of thing, though, as I'm aware of lots of albums and there's something very wooly that distinguishes between a "merely excellent" and a "great" album. Or such is my take on it anyway :-) I have tended to favour albums which have some coherence to them, rather than just lots of good songs — even if I was including them, compilations would rarely rate as great albums for me.
As far as an ordered list goes, I'm not going to be that silly; however, the Manic Street Preachers' "The Holy Bible" and Belle & Sebastian's "Tigermilk" are strong contenders for the number one spot. The difference in "feel" between those two and the fact that Rage Against The Machine's eponymous debut isn't far behind makes me rather happy :-) Anyway, here's the list:
And finally, since people tend to ask me what my favourite bands are and on the spot I can never think of them, here's a few regular candidates:
This is very non-exhaustive! Categorising music with labels and even with ideas like "favourite bands" just doesn't work...
So, that's that: if you think you've got similar musical tastes to me and can really recommend an album that isn't in my collection then please let me know!
